This programme contains five films that capture Londons Docklands in all their glory from the 1940メs to the 1970メs. ムThames Portメ is a fast moving colour film from the 1970s and celebrates new developments, including containerisation and the Freightliner terminal with Goliath cranes. The Port of London Authority also reveals its plans for the forthcoming Maplin Seaport Development. ムFaces In a Crowdメ was made in 1969 and looks at a day in the life of London and its docks, celebrating the ties between the City and the commerce generated by Docklands. ムCape Cargoesメwas filmed in the late 1940s and deals with trade between London and South Africa. It follows the Llandovery Castle outbound from Cape Town with its cargo of passengers, wools, gold, diamonds, skins and hides, bound for first Tilbury then the Royal Docks. ムPort of London Todayメ is a colour celebration of new technology employed by Docklands in the 1970s, focusing on cars, meat, grain, wine, oil and timber. ムPort of Londonᅠ 1959メ is its own filmed account of its work at the end of the 1950s and captures day to day operations along the Thames.
