THE STAFFS AND WORCESTER CANAL
The Staffs and Worcester Canal played an important part in the Industrial Revolution.
It provided an outlet for the heavy industries of the Black Country, to the River
Severn, and hence to the port of Bristol. This video captures the beauty and the
atmosphere of the present day canal as most of the industry has long gone. The canal,
which is now one of the most beautiful in the country passes through an extensive
lake known as Tixall Wide, where boaters can moor to watch the many species of water
birds. The canal then passes through the attractive valleys of the river Sow and
passes beneath spectacular overhangs of red sandstone rock. It finishes at
Stourport, an inland port. VA1013. 57 minutes. Export $50-00. Australia $55-00 plus p & p. VideoActive.

Worcester Canal in the South, to the Manchester Ship Canal in the North. The southern
section, designed by Telford was built on the ‘cut and fill’ technique with deep,
sheer sided cuttings and massive embankments. This is in sharp contrast to the north
which meanders, river-like, around the contours of the landscape. VA1002 40 minutes.

gorges on tall slender legs. The highlight has to be the passage across Telford’s
Aqueduct at Pontcysyllte, 120 feet above the valley floor. VA1001 40 minutes.
